Generation Green

May 11th, 2010 Posted in Design

Oil prices are topping an all-time high & global warming is ever present in today’s society, Going green is quickly becoming a necessity in the world today. Since the Industrial Revolution, CO2 has been steady on the rise and only getting worse. Today the requirement for alternative energy dare I say alternative solutions cannot come any sooner. The automotive industry has fallen behind the green wagon, in the past catering to the customers’ wants and not their needs. Evidence of this can be seen if you look at the history of General Motors EV1. In today’s market manufactures are pushing their hybrid technology, while this is a step in the right direction it is not the answer.  Their goals should be zero emissions! The Honda’s FCX clarity is spearheading this movement; I hope its fate will not be like the others that came before it.

I would also like to show the Organic Airship concept by Vincent Callebaut.

Headed under the project called Hydrogenase, it’s 100% self-sufficient as far as energy is concerned and will release zero carbon emission. Powered by seaweed these ships would be able to carry up to 200 tons while travelling at 175km/h. Using seaweed to create bio-hydrogen within its 400meter vertical chassis, these ships could be functional by as early as 2030.

ED encourages everyone to go Green , get EDucated today!
